Windows 10 - End of Support
Support ends October 2025
What this means:
- No more security/feature updates (EU gets a year of updates, but needs to Enroll)
- no more core development.
- Apps no longer required to be supported on this version.
What can we do?
You can run Windows PC Health Check to see if you can upgrade your version to Windows 11 (25h2 i think is latest?) link here. You will need a compatible CPU (Intel generation 7 and above), and a Trusted Platform Module chip or addon of 2.0 or later enabled. Ryzen gen 2 and above (2x00 model)CPU's should have a version built in.
If these are not an option, Time to invest in a new system, but avoid the lower priced'AI' systems, they seem to rely on cloud making offline tasks impossible.
Grey and not so easy options.
Linux is starting to get better Windows App support, with some configuring required for Gaming systems and lots of versions allow you to boot off an USB stick to test it out without adjusting anything on your PC. This will take a lot of getting used to.
Windows 11 IoT (internet of things, an embedded type of system) doesn't seem to have the planned AI bloat integrated into it. But by the time you've worked out how to get it and install, you might as well try a Linux USB boot.
